ISABEL MCKINNEY
L-R: Isabel McKinney, Grover Pulliam, Lou Pulliam, James P. Pulliam
Clara Isabel Pulliam was born in 1896, in Wasco, Oregon. She married John McKinney in May 1911, in Prineville, Oregon. She was a freelance writer who published in many magazines and newspapers such as the Oregon Journal and the Oregonian. She died in Portland, Oregon, aged 94, in 1990.
“Things I Remember” is a visit to the past, memories from a time that has disappeared, but not forgotten. “Life On The High Desert” details day-to-day living for homesteaders in central Oregon in the early 20th century.
My interest in Isabel’s writing is due to her younger brother: James P. Pulliam, who is featured in the “Things I Remember” article, was my grandfather. My father, James A. Pulliam, collected family memorabilia, and upon his death in 2011, I inherited a cardboard box containing many treasures, including these articles on life back in the pioneer days of central Oregon. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.
